Since I left Longwood Gardens with 300 photos in my memory card, I thought I’d break them down a bit.
If you’d like to see part two, go here!
I am gonna end this set with my very favorite photo. It is how I wish all of these photos turned out. Everything relevant is in focus, it’s beautifully lit, it’s crisp, and beautiful. You get this because you scrolled to the end of the post!

Lovely photos! Flowers are a passion with me as well. I also read about your little son – wonderful that he is OK! My own son looked like a shell of a chicken when he was born 20 years ago (14 May). Many diseases were thought about and checked up about, but noone could ever say what had happened to him in there – getting no food fom me…
Today he is a grown young man – or at least 14 May he will be – and completely beautiful and healthy. They are everything to me, my children. Take care and much love.

Your favorite is also my favorite! You’re right about the light. Exquisite. Great job. I work hard to get good photos – mostly of my kids now. My goal is to get a photo of my 8 year old, Catherine, that makes my heart swell. I may spend my lifetime working on that one cuz she’s in a wheelchair and unable to sit on her own. Gives me something to work toward for sure! Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful. Not only the last one, either, all of them! I’m partial to the first: the shock of the orange against such a delicate blue, wow.
Dawn said:
That is one of my very favorite color combinations. I’ve seen some photos of the same flower at Longwood and it seems people tend to be a little heavy handed with the color enhancement. Many were much darker or brighter. I didn’t think that poppy needed to be improved upon so aside from some exposure adjustments, that looks exactly like it did 😀

Just a word of advice to any photographer…. get your name or watermark on them ASAP!!!! You’ve put a lot of time, effort, and money into them. Don’t let another steal them.
Can’t wait to see more of your photos!
Dawn said:
Thanks for the advice! I’ve thought about that quite a bit lately, and the way I see it, if someone wants to steal a photo, they’ll steal a photo. I’d rather risk someone claiming a low-res copy of one of my photos as their own than having some ugly watermark distract from what I’m trying to capture. Besides, I’ve got my EXIF to back me up 🙂

I used to say we have not only failed to stop and smell the flowers.. we have stopped planting them. In a technology driven world flowers seem over rated in our every day life. What a sad concept.
